MEG MEDINA is an award-winning Cuban American author who writes picture books, middle grade, and YA fiction. Her most recent young adult novel, Burn Baby Burn, has earned numerous distinctions including being long listed for the 2016 National Book Award and shortlisted for the Kirkus Prize. Meg’s work examines how cultures intersect, as seen through the eyes of young people. She brings to audiences stories that speak to both what is unique in Latino culture and to the qualities that are universal. Her favorite protagonists are strong girls. LINDA SUE PARK was born in Urbana, Illinois on March 25, 1960, and grew up outside Chicago. The daughter of Korean immigrants, she has been writing poems and stories since she was four years old, and her favorite thing to do as a child was read. The first thing she ever published was a haiku in a children’s magazine when she was nine years old. It was many years before she discovered she wanted to write books for young people. Now, she is the award-winning author of many other books for young people, including A Long Walk to Water, Project Mulberry, and A Single Shard, which was awarded the 2002 Newbery Medal. Park will be visiting us on Tuesday. |
